Award-Winning Design 🏆

German Design Award Winner 2025

The core innovation of Orca shears is a four-bar linkage mechanism that places the instantaneous centre of rotation between the handles distally to the tool, optimizing the power transfer from the fingers to the cutting blades. Hand power delivery to the cutting action is increased by about 50 % compared to conventional shears. The four main components are injection molded from the high-performance, 40 % carbon fibre reinforced polyamide to minimize the weight and compliance. Removable hardened stainless steel blades are chromium-plated for resistance to wear and corrosion.

Statement by the Jury

The innovative pruner impresses with its unique four-link mechanism that significantly enhances power transmission, making gardening tasks easier. The use of high-quality materials such as carbon fiber-reinforced polyamide and hardened stainless steel ensures a durable and robust tool. »Orca« stands out for its ergonomics and effective functionality.

German Design Awards

Reddot Winner 2024

Thanks to its innovative construction with four joints, the Orca garden shears optimise power transmission compared to conventional shears by approximately 50 per cent. The four main components, made of high-quality, carbon fibre-reinforced polyamide, minimise weight and springiness. Despite their slim design, the shears achieve a stability and rigidity that matches that of professional aluminium shears. Both blades can be removed for sharpening or replacement. Orca includes a hand guard and is available in two sizes.

Statement by the Jury

The innovative construction of the Orca scissors ensures exceptionally high power transmission, which is extremely helpful for garden cutting work.

Swiss Innovation. Reimagined for the Outdoors.

Inspired by biomechanics and rooted in over three decades of engineering, the ORCA™ Pruner brings high-precision Swiss design into the garden.

The idea started in 1987, when mechanical engineer Slobodan Tepic developed the four-bar linkage system — a mechanism that allows all fingers to move in unison, distributing effort evenly across the hand. Originally designed for surgical tools, it now forms the heart of ORCA™, giving you up to 50% more cutting force with noticeably less strain.

The ORCA™ may appear delicate — but looks deceive. It’s built from injection-moulded nylon reinforced with 40% carbon fibre, making it extremely stiff and lightweight. Paired with hardened stainless steel blades coated in hard chrome, it cuts cleanly, resists rust, and stays sharper for longer.

From vineyards to rose gardens, ORCA™ is made for those who cut with care, strength, and precision.

At Cutting Edge Technologies, every design begins with a simple question:

What’s the job to be done?

With ORCA™, the answer is simple — power, comfort, and control, without compromise.
